There have been stories in the press lately about the emergency services being called out to increasing numbers of fires linked to e-cigarette chargers. Follow our advice to make sure that you charge your e-cigarette safely...
As with any electronic device there are minor risks to be aware of when charging. Steps which can be taken to considerably minimise these risks include:
- Never leave a battery on charge for longer than necessary
Leaving a battery on charge after the light on the USB cable has turned green can cause the battery to continue charging which will reduce the life of your battery and could cause it to overheat. All Vivid batteries are tested to ensure they do not overheat, but we always recommend removing batteries from a power source as soon as it is fully charged. After all, when it comes to electricals, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
- Never use non branded chargers or adaptors
Using unbranded chargers or adaptors is a risk you should NEVER take. If the charger is not from a reliable and reputable company, the chances are, it has not been thoroughly tested to ensure that it doesn’t overcharge or break. If you are in any doubt about your e-cigarette charger or other related equipment then call the manufacturer before you use it.
- Never use mobile phone adaptors
Although these may come from a reputable company and will have been tested for various risks that DOES NOT mean that they are compatible with e-cig batteries. The simple fact is, e-cig batteries are a lot smaller than mobile phone batteries and these adaptors push out a low more power than an e-cig needs.
